Mr Dylan Wyn James is a trusted New Zealand trained plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon working in Christchurch and Timaru.

Dylan works hard to build a reputation of compassion, trust and excellence in his provision of care. He provides the latest techniques in his field to ensure the best outcomes for his patients. His International heritage and experiences have given him diverse insights into all cultures and walks of life, to ensure a personal touch to the patients care.

Dylan and his team offer plastics and reconstructive services at Specialists @11, Level 2/11 Caledonian Road, Christchurch on the Southern Cross Hospital campus. He is credentialed to work in several Christchurch private hospitals and consults in Private Rooms in Timaru.

Dylan is also Head of Department, Christchurch Public Hospital Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery Department.

In order to further improve his skills in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery he did Observerships in leading International Units overseas:

  • Leuven University Hospital, Leuven, Belgium (breast and microsurgery)
  • St.Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia (aesthetic and reconstructive surgery)
  • Melanoma Institute of Australia, Sydney, Melbourne (skin cancer and reconstruction)
  • Ganga Hospital Coimbatore, South India (hand and reconstructive microsurgery)

These were invaluable experiences working with internationally renowned surgeons and helped to broaden the horizons of cultural and academic aspects of plastics, hand and reconstructive surgery.

Every year Dylan attends National and International conferences as a participant and lecturer to maintain his knowledge of the ever-changing surgical frontiers and to keep contact with esteemed surgical colleagues from overseas.

He is a member of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons and American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

His hobbies include mountainbiking, snow boarding, fishing and watercolour painting.

Sarah James

Sarah James

Sarah is a registered nurse who qualified in Christchurch. She has an extensive background in surgical nursing and thoroughly enjoys the rapport she develops with patients. Sarah assists her husband, Dylan, in the minor operating theatre onsite for surgical procedures and in post-operative wound care management. During the post-operative phase, she provides advice on scar management, skincare and sun protection. Sarah focuses on reduction of premature skin ageing and prevention of skin cancer from the intense NZ sun.

Her role also involves non-surgical aesthetic procedures such as dermal needling, dermal fillers and botulinum toxin placement. She attends reputed national and international conferences annually with Dylan to maintain her knowledge and skills in these exciting fields of aesthetic medicine.

Friendly reception staff to greet you on arrival and will address any concerns you have re consultation or surgeries.
There is a credentialed fully equipped minor operating theatre on site for performing procedures such as skin cancer surgery, scar revisions and carpel tunnel surgery to name a few. These can be done on day of consultation or by pre-planning.
